At Teal's Discovery Nook: Mind Over Math, my goal is to relieve the stress surrounding Math for you and your child. My math classes are great for homework completion, learning gaps, and improving test scores. While my art and critical thinking classes cover new skills to expand your child’s mind and math practice across many math types. Check them out below!
Math Mindset
All Types of Math
This Math class is perfect for students who have an understanding of the math concepts being taught in their curriculum but need some extra support. This class offers some Math review as well as targeted support for each student. It is important that each student brings Math work to work on during class. These classes are small and personalized so students will get the attention and guidance needed. Great for students and eases parents' workload!

Strategic Play
Math Type: Arithmetic
Strategic Play is a fun class that encourages students to analyze, question, and strategize. This class introduces students to games that involve critical thinking and foundational Math skills. Students learn different strategies and expand their perspectives through the carefully selected games. Each game provides opportunities to strengthen Math skills found in everyday life and in Math homework. This class is perfect for all personality types and is a great way for kids to connect with one another.

Beginning Knitting
Math Type: Measurement
This class is designed to help students improve their hand-eye coordination, follow instructions, and develop patience, perseverance, and problem-solving skills. Students will learn how to cast on, do a garter (knit) stitch, and cast off. They will create a project using their newly learned skills and a bit of basic Math. With individualized instruction and guidance, this class is the perfect way to learn a new skill and work towards creating something beautiful in the process.​​​

Intermediate Knitting
Math Type: Algebra
This knitting class is designed for individuals who have completed beginning knitting or have knowledge of casting on/off and the garter stitch.
Each month students will pick from a variety of projects that will have them learn new skills. Some examples are how to use a pattern, new stitches such as the purl stitch, button holes, yarn changes, and more. This class also brings in elements of basic Math as an added educational bonus. I'm excited to see the things students will create as they learn all the amazing things you can do with knitting!

Needle Felting
Math Type: Geometry
Join our Needle Felting class and unleash your creativity! This forgiving art form allows students to work with their hands and transform simple ideas into beautiful finished creations. This class also offers exposure to geometric concepts and terminology. So whether your student is a beginner or an experienced crafter they'll enjoy the process of bringing their unique ideas to life and using a bit of Math to do it. Come and discover the joy of needle felting with me!

Embroidery COMING SOON
Whether a student has never embroidered before or has some experience, this embroidery class is a great way to learn a new skill and express creativity. It also helps improve patience, hand-eye coordination, listening skills, and following instructions. Each class starts with a lesson on a new stitch, and the remainder of the class is spent applying that stitch to a design that students create. It's all about dedication and following instructions to bring their vision to life.​​

Hand Sewing COMING SOON
Hand Sewing class is the perfect opportunity for students to learn a new skill or improve their existing sewing techniques. Each class starts by introducing a new stitch or technique, and then the majority of the class is devoted to working on a project of the student's choice. This class not only teaches a practical life skill it is also a great way to develop hand-eye coordination, help students practice listening, problem-solving, planning to completion, and encourages creativity.
